Joy Cooper
Mayor, City of Hallandale Beach

Mayor Joy Cooper was first
elected to the Hallandale Beach City Commission in 1999. She
has served as commissioner, vice mayor and is the first
directly elected mayor in the history of Hallandale Beach.
She was born on Trenton New Jersey and grew up as one of six
children in Levittown Pennsylvania . Mayor Cooper has owned
property in South Florida since 1985 and made her full time
home here in Hallandle Beach since 1991. She has been
married to Dr Harry Cooper for 21 years. They are the proud
parents of three children, Jaime 29, Alana 20 and Matt age
16.
Mayor Cooper is the President of the Broward League of
Cities and has served actively on their board for eight
years. She also serves on the Florida League of Cities Board
of Directors and is an active member of the US Conference of
Mayors. Currently Mayor Cooper serves as the Chair of the
Broward County Fire Rescue Council and as a member of the
Broward County School Oversight Committee. She is Chair of
both the Hallandale Beach Housing Authority, and Hallandale
Beach Community Development Agency. Mayor Cooper serves on
the Florida Redevelopment Association Board of Directors and
just became a sponsored member of the Urban Land Institute
South Florida District.
Mayor Joy Cooper was one of the original signatory of the
U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Act in 2005. In addition to
working towards improved communications between city
government and all constituents, her goals include keeping
Hallandale Beach “Clean & Green” She is always accessible
7/24/365 to serve all stakeholders in Hallandale Beach.
Mayor Cooper takes an active role in her children’s
education. In her spare time she enjoys volunteering at our
local schools, traveling with her family, cooking, tennis,
golf, skiing, snowboarding and boating. |
