Nationally-recognized for his
achievements as a developer and work-out specialist, Michael
Maxwell has acquired, developed, restructured and
repositioned nearly $1 billion in real estate assets,
primarily in Florida and the Caribbean.
Mr. Maxwell’s career encompasses executive, operational,
financial and marketing management roles. He is a skilled
and effective communicator and is accepted as an expert
witness on real estate development issues in both state and
federal courts. He is a Florida licensed real estate and
mortgage broker and holds the prestigious AICP designation
from the American Institute of Certified Planners. Mr.
Maxwell’s work is honored with awards for preservation,
innovative industrial buildings and outstanding
redevelopment projects. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree
from University of Texas at Austin, where he studied
architecture and city planning, and received a Master of
Planning degree from the University of Virginia, with
specializations in real estate development and urban design.
Mr. Maxwell began his career as an architect and project
manager for a Texas home builder and subsequently held
planning positions in the public and private sectors. As
President of Michael Maxwell Associates, Inc., an advisory
firm founded in 1982, he provided consulting, project
management, litigation support and work-out services to
private and government entities. As Vice President of Codina
Development (Miami), he led a $400 million award-winning
office/retail/industrial project.
In 1992, Mr. Maxwell founded MAXWELL+Partners, LLC which
offers both development and advisory services. As
developers, the team has orchestrated successful
acquisition, entitlement processing, planning and developing
of land, office, industrial, retail, luxury and multifamily
homes and resort properties, delivering more than 2 million
square feet of exceptional, award-winning real estate
product. As advisors, the firm provides consulting and
expert witness services to attorneys, courts and other
interested parties on asset evaluations, work-out strategies
and dispute resolution. The firm's participation in
workouts, restructures, asset management, construction
completion, and disposition has already exceeded $300
million in value. The firm also serves lenders, investors
and government clients with due diligence, asset management,
financing, portfolio management, and construction-related
assistance.
Beyond his development and advisory roles, Mr. Maxwell has
been an extremely active participant in professional and
community arenas. He is an adjunct professor of Business in
the MBA Real Estate Program at Nova Southeastern University
and a former adjunct professor at Florida International
University Graduate School of Business in real estate
development and management. He is a Full Member of the Urban
Land Institute (ULI), serves on the Executive Committee of
the ULI Florida/Caribbean District Council and is co-vice
chair of the ULI 2008 National Fall conference. He serves on
national ULI advisory panels and developed comprehensive
revitalization strategies for Springfield VA and “Little
Saigon” in Westminster, CA. He is an executive committee
member of the Greater Miami Urban League and founding
chairman of the Urban League’s affordable housing
development company, New Urban Development LLC. A graduate
of Leadership Miami and past executive committee member, he
has served as chair or member of numerous community boards
including Miami Country Day School, Bonnet House Museum,
Dade Heritage Trust, Florida Trust for Historic
Preservation, Gusman Theater and the University of Virginia
South Florida Alumni Association.
