The budget is developed annually and requires working with every committee and the Executive Committee to help determine their annual and ongoing financial needs while maintaining fiscal responsibility of the District Council as a whole.

The goal of the Academia Committee is to enhance understanding between the academic and the development communities.

To accomplish this goal, our plan is to implement the following initiatives:

  • Identify ULI members who are willing to be part of a speakers' bureau for classroom lectures in real estate development, planning, land use or real estate law, construction, architecture, and related fields
  • Identify ULI members who are valuable sources of information for academia
  • Identify universities and their programs that include coursework in real estate development, planning, land use or real estate law, construction, architecture, and related fields
  • Identify interested professors within those programs or classes
  • Create a program for linking development-focused members with academics
  • Identify potential development site visits for students
  • Produce a roster of interested academics; work with ULI programs committee for consideration of professors as possible program speakers
  • Establish a system whereby students are invited to attend District Council ULI programs at a reduced rate
  • Establish a mailing list of academic departments and professors for announcement of District Council ULI programs

TAP’s - THE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
Vice Chair, James R. Brindell, Esq.
Partner, Gunster Yoakley & Stewart, P.A.
561-650-0511
jbrindell@gunster.com

TAPs are a 1-2 day session in which a local government or non-profit organization asks the District Council to provide advice on a specific land use issue. The sponsoring organization develops three or four well-defined questions that it would like the panel to address and the scope of the assignment is such that the panel can adequately address the issues in the 1-day session. Prior to the panel convening, the sponsor prepares and distributes briefing materials to the panelists.

For purposes of clarity and to avoid confusion with the “national” Advisory Services Program, district council panels are called Technical Assistance Programs or TAPs. TAPs do a variety of things.
• They provide the members of the District Council an avenue for being involved in ULI and giving back to their community.
• They provide a means for District Councils to be more involved in their local communities.
• They provide local communities access to expertise and advice that they may not be able to obtain through any other means.
