The overall Committee is currently chaired by Brett Porak, Director of Preconstruction, Moss & Associates
Formed in 2009, the District Council Mobility Committee has originally focused most of its work on the areas of transportation/transit and its linkage with land use throughout Southeast Florida. The committee carried out the District Council’s work for ULI’s Curtis Infrastructure Initiative. Southeast Florida was chosen as one of four District Councils nationally to take part in this initiative focusing on better linkage of transportation and land use. The Southeast Florida District Council expanded the local project to include all five Florida District Councils – thus giving the project a statewide perspective. This effort yielded information concerning both regional transportation authorities, and support for dedicated funding sources for transit in Florida. The effort concluded with the publication of “Connecting Florida: Transit + Florida’s Economy”.
Following the 2010 publication of the ‘Connecting Florida’ report, the committee is currently implementing a new work plan containing elements scheduled through 2015.
Specific objectives include:
- Identify the critical factors in redeveloping properties toward a transit (multimodal) supportive manner;
- Learn from successful developments in South Florida and understand how the urban form supports multi-modes of transportation in a compact, mixed-use environment;
Get involved in the new work plan, continuing the District Council’s work on an integrated, regional transportation system, which can tie together the region’s employment centers and anchor institutions.
