The District Council is proud to announce the 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award recipients: Bernardo Fort-Brescia and Laurinda Spear, the founding principals of the global architecture firm Arquitectonica.
Founded in 1977, the firm received acclaim almost from its inception, thanks to a bold modernism that was immediately identified with a renaissance in Miami’s urban landscape. Bernardo and Laurinda have continued exploring and pushing the limits with their innovative use of geometry, pattern, and color to introduce a new brand of humanistic modern design to the world.
Today their practice spans the globe, with over 900 architects with projects in over 60 countries around the world. The firm is known as one of the pioneers of globalization in the architecture profession. Over the years, Arquitectonica has received hundreds of design awards, and the firm’s groundbreaking work has been the subject of exhibitions at numerous museums and institutions.
Bernardo and Laurinda’s designs implanted a new vision of modern Miami and have carried the banner of Miami architecture around the world with skyscrapers, opera houses, resorts and new cities. Join us to celebrate their transformational accomplishments at the Vision Awards ceremony on September 7th.
