    André Dua

    Managing Partner, Miami, McKinsey & Company

    André Dua is the Managing Partner of McKinsey’s Miami office. He is a member of the McKinsey Global Institute Council, which advises on MGI’s research on global economic, business, and technology trends. His work and research span four interrelated areas: company transformation, the future of work, higher education, and state and local government. André has worked with many leaders of large and small companies and governments on performance transformations. As a leader within McKinsey’s Transformation Practice, he has experience designing and delivering transformation programs that drive superior improvement across all business and operational levers, including revenue, cost, capital efficiency, and customer and citizen experience. As a leader of McKinsey’s future of work initiative, André works with companies, communities, and education systems on training and reskilling programs. In addition, he was the founder and chair of McKinsey Academy—the firm’s vehicle for transforming the performance of leading institutions by unlocking the potential of people. The Academy designs and delivers large-scale capability-building programs that support performance transformations. He also founded and leads McKinsey’s higher-education work and has served more than 20 public- and private-university systems and campuses around the world, including research, comprehensive, and community colleges. This work has spanned a range of issues, such as strategy, research preeminence, administrative excellence, enrollment and financial aid, capital productivity, college completion, health-sciences strategy and performance improvement, academic medical-center culture, and university board governance. He convenes McKinsey’s roundtable of higher-education board of trustees and developed McKinsey’s higher-education “Fingerprint,” a granular performance assessment of more than 800 universities in the United States. Previously, André founded and led McKinsey’s state and local government work. He has worked with dozens of state and local governments on citizen experience, economic and workforce development, infrastructure strategy and capital budgeting, disaster recovery and resilience, healthcare strategy and innovation, and administrative operations. He developed McKinsey’s proprietary Leading States Index, which evaluates state performance on numerous dimensions of critical importance to citizens. André previously led McKinsey’s regulatory-strategy work, cofounded the McKinsey Asia Center, and was a partner in McKinsey’s Technology, Media & Telecommunications Practice for more than a decade. He currently serves on the board of the Citizens’ Budget Commission, and on the advisory council for the Oxford University Initiative on AI and the Law. Previously, he served on the boards of the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership, and the United Way of New York City, where he was vice chair. André coauthored the McKinsey Global Institute’s report, The future of work in America: People and places, today and tomorrow and has written articles for Harvard Business Review and numerous other publications on reskilling the workforce. He is also a coauthor of the 1997 book, Sustaining the Asia–Pacific Miracle: Environmental Protection and Economic Integration, for which he received a grant from the MacArthur Foundation. In 2003, the World Economic Forum named him one of 100 “global leaders for tomorrow.”

    Pamela Poland

    Managing Director, Marsh

    In her 22+ years as a property broker, Pam has held roles as both client advisor and placement specialist for risk management and middle market clients across all asset classes. She has extensive experience with commercial real estate, hospitality and casinos, food and beverage, financial institutions, healthcare and life science clients. Over the course of her career, Pam has specialized in the placement of accounts with high catastrophic exposures and difficult occupancies where the ability to source capacity and deliver specialized solutions is critical. Pam’s background in Finance allows for ease of communication and understanding at the C Suite level in navigating the most challenging property marketplace experienced in 40 years. Through analytics and modeling, Pam provides real time feedback on program design and delivery based on an insured’s risk tolerance. Pam helps develop an allocation customized for each individual insured. Pam also oversees and mentors less experienced colleagues to help guide them to better outcomes for our insureds.

    David Deutch

    Co-Founder and President, Pinnacle

    David O. Deutch is co-founder and President of Pinnacle, a Miami-based full-service real estate development and construction company that builds high-quality workforce and market-rate housing across Florida. Deutch, who co-founded Pinnacle in 1997, is involved in the hands-on, day-to-day management of Pinnacle and its affiliates and oversees all facets of the business enterprise. Deutch brings to Pinnacle decades of experience in the multi-family housing market. Under his leadership, Pinnacle has developed long-standing relationships with local governments, financial institutions, and other stakeholders, which allowed Pinnacle to grow and diversify its portfolio of offerings to include affordable, workforce and luxury developments. Pinnacle has completed over 10,000 units of multi-family housing and its communities serve as the benchmark for “best-in-class” residential living. A third-generation Miamian, Deutch began his career in the Corporate Banking Division at Southeast Bank and thereafter became Manager of Business Planning at Costa Cruise Lines. Deutch received his M.B.A. from the University of Miami Graduate School of Business and B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin. He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Coalition of Affordable Housing Providers, Florida’s statewide housing advocacy organization for the affordable housing industry, from 2011-2015. Deutch is a past President of the Mount Sinai Medical Center Foundation and serves on the Executive Committee of the hospital’s Board of Trustees. He is also involved in a number of non-profit organizations in greater Miami that support the community.

    Stephen Vecchitto

    Managing Director, Advenir

    Stephen Vecchitto founded Advenir, Inc in 1996 and is its Managing Director. Advenir is a multi-family real estate investment, development and management company. Advenir currently controls and owns jointly with investors over 13,000 plus units, valued in excess of $3.3B of real estate assets in Florida, Texas, Colorado, Alabama, Georgia and the Carolinas, and generates $230M+ in annual revenue. The Company has over 400 employees, is based in Miami, Florida, and has offices in Atlanta, Houston, Denver and Orlando. Mr. Vecchitto was the founder of VSM, LLC; a Hartford based Certified Public Accounting and financial services firm. The firm grew to 40 professionals and became the fifth largest private firm in Hartford. While at the firm Mr. Vecchitto was the Managing Partner, created and grew the litigation support division, concentrated on mergers and acquisitions, became certified as a Certified Fraud Examiner, and an Accredited Member of the Association of Appraisers – Business Valuation concentration. He was qualified to testify as an expert in both State and Federal courts. Mr. Vecchitto sold the Firm in 1996. Mr. Vecchitto continues to be a strategic advisor to businesses and high net worth individuals. Mr. Vecchitto dedicates much of his spare time and is very active in the business community at large and philanthropy. He is an Associate Board of Director for Apartment Life, is the Board co-chair of Redemer City-to-City Miami, and is a Cornerstone Member of Make-A-Wish Foundation in South Florida. He is a man of faith, father of two daughters and the proud grandfather of six grandchildren who all live in Hawaii.

    Steve Patterson

    President & CEO - Related Development, The Related Group

    Steve Patterson leads all aspects of Related Group’s highly successful multifamily and mixed-use division. Since the establishment of the rental group in 2010, Steve has grown it into one of Related’s most prolific, with numerous flagship properties throughout the Southeastern United States, as well three regional offices located in Miami, Atlanta and, most recently, Dallas. Steve is an innovator who is constantly exploring new construction methods, crafting new features to enhance the rental experience, and seeking to make each new venture more successful than the last. This philosophy led him to create several unique brands tailored for all lifestyles and various income levels, which include the garden-style “Town” apartments, the more luxurious midrise “Manor” properties and the lavish “Icon” high-rises. Steve was also an integral part of the firm’s expansion into the mixed-use sector, leading the development of CityPlace Doral—an $800-million project with more than 1,000 residences and over 40 commercial tenants that delivered in early 2017. All Related Development properties are regarded as best-in-class assets, evidenced by achieving top-dollar rents and record-breaking exit prices. Under Steve’s leadership, the Related Development team has delivered over 5,500 units with an additional 4,100 in predevelopment or under construction. The division expects to start construction on an additional 5,000 units over three regions within 10 different Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA) by 2020. In addition to development, Steve also pursues investment in value-add acquisitions in all income property sectors. His track record of profitable real estate investment ventures is valued at over $4 billion. Prior to joining Related, Steve held executive positions at ZOM Holding, Inc., a multifamily development and management company focusing primarily in the Southeastern U.S., and before that, held management positions for Picerne Development and Huber, Hunt & Nichols, overseeing development, property management and construction functions in Texas, Virginia and Florida. During Steve’s tenure, ZOM was recognized by the National Association of Homebuilders as Company of the Year in both the development and property management categories. Steve was formerly president of the NAHB Multifamily Leadership Board, he is frequently published in trade journals and has twice been invited to testify on housing industry matters before the Federal Reserve Board. He holds degrees in engineering technology and construction management from Oklahoma State University.

    Alexis Calatayud

    Senator, State of Florida

    Florida State Senator Alexis Calatayud’s story is one of consistency and commitment— Most recently, she served as the Director of Policy and Programs at the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE). To Senator Calatayud, educational opportunity means we ensure every child can achieve the American Dream through high-quality, accessible VPK-12 education, affordable postsecondary programs, and workforce training that align with the jobs of the future. Serving the FLDOE for two sessions, Senator Calatayud worked in lockstep with the Legislature to enhance Florida’s VPK-20 Education System – successfully advocating for historic increases in public education, teacher salary funding, and developing education laws signed by the Governor into a multi-tiered implementation plan. Prior to her role in Legislative Affairs at FLDOE, Senator Calatayud was Representative Vance Aloupis’ campaign manager in the 2018 and 2020 election cycles and served as his Legislative Aide from 2018 – 2020. Upon graduating from Florida International University, Senator Calatayud partnered with national non-profit organizations to train Florida student leaders on candidate engagement strategies, in advance of the 2016 campaign cycle, to center candidate focus on issues that mattered to students – postsecondary affordability, student loans, and cost of living. Senator Calatayud then moved to Washington D.C. to broaden the scope of this work, developing national student leadership training programs to educate and prepare over 500 college campus presidents to advocate for their student body and local community on federal, state, and institutional issues. Senator Calatayud is a graduate of Florida International University. She served two terms as student body president and a university trustee implementing institutional, local, state, and federal advocacy strategies to advance college affordability efforts while interning for Senator Marco Rubio.

    As the CEO of Miami-based development firm Terra, David Martin has cultivated a portfolio of more than five million square feet of residential and commercial real estate valued in excess of $8 billion. The firm is active across all major real estate asset classes, including multifamily apartments, luxury condominium and single-family residences, retail and office space, hotels, and industrial properties. Mr. Martin oversees several facets of Terra’s business, including real estate development, design, construction, financing, marketing, sales and leasing. Relentless in his pursuit of design excellence and responsible approaches to development, Since launching the firm in 2001, David has enlisted the world’s top architects and planners as collaborators behind the firm’s signature projects. Recent examples include Rem Koolhaas/OMA, Renzo Piano, Bjarke Ingels, Daniel Buren, Ruben and Isabel Toledo, Meyer Davis Studio, William Sofield, West 8, Chef Michael Schwartz, Rene Gonzalez, Chad Oppenheim, RDAI, Gabellini Sheppard and more. A Florida native, Mr. Martin has taken a proactive role in ensuring his hometown is built to last. Terra integrates green space, resilient construction methods, transit connectivity and renewable energy into its developments wherever possible. Additionally, Mr. Martin has been and is involved in several boards and organizations, including serving as a member of Miami-Dade County’s Biscayne Bay Task Force, an Advisory Board member for the University of Miami’s Masters in Real Estate Development + Urbanism (MRED+U) program, Chair of the Neighborhoods Committee for The Underline, a 10-mile linear park now under construction in Miami, as well as an active member of the Sea Level Rise Committee. This commitment to community is underscored by Terra’s historic role in charitable, civic, arts and cultural organizations, including the Miami Children's Health Foundation benefitting Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, the Freedom Tower, Vizcaya Museums and Gardens, YoungArts Foundation, and The Bass Museum. Mr. Martin is an alumnus of the University of Florida, where he earned his MBA and his Law Degree (JD), as well as his undergraduate degree, and currently sits on the board for the UF School of Business. He resides in Miami Beach with his wife and two children.

    Craig Thomas

    Senior Vice President, AvalonBay Communities, Inc.

    As the Senior Vice President, Market Research, Craig Thomas is responsible for leading AvalonBay’s market research group, which provides analysis, modeling and strategy support for all aspects of AvalonBay’s real estate development, operations, portfolio shaping and corporate decision making. Prior to joining AvalonBay in 2010, Mr. Thomas was Vice President and Senior Economist for The PNC Financial Services Group. Previously in his career, Mr. Thomas served as Director of Research for Citi Property Investors, Torto Wheaton Research, and Director of Regional Models for Economy.com (now Moody’s Analytics). Thomas earned his M.S. Degree at the University of Maine. He is also the author of "The Econosphere" (Financial Times Press, November 2009).

    Henry Bott

    President, Swire Properties

    Henry is currently Chief Representative of John Swire & Sons Vietnam having set up the office in late 2019 with the objective of sourcing investment opportunities for the Swire Group. Prior to that, he was a Portfolio Manager in Swire Properties’ Taikoo Place development since 2017 where he worked primarily on the pre-leasing and launch of the 1 million sq ft Grade A office tower, One Taikoo Place. From 2015-17, Henry was Head of Swire Properties’ Digital Team, focused on enhancing the customer experience and targeted marketing across the business (predominantly retail malls) through the use of digital technology. Previously, Henry was a founder of blueprint, Swire Properties’ tech-focused accelerator and co-working space in Taikoo Place. He joined Swire’s Management Trainee Programme in 2010 and has worked in the Retail, Office and Investment departments within Swire Properties in Beijing and Hong Kong. Originally from the U.K., Henry graduated from Nottingham University with a 1st class degree in History and Contemporary Chinese Studies. He has studied Mandarin for almost 15 years and can speak, read and write. In 2015, he received an MSc in Real Estate Finance and was granted membership of the RICS. In 2019, he achieved Foundation level of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). Whilst at Swire, Henry has completed various executive training and leadership courses at INSEAD Business School, including receiving an online diploma in the topic of ‘Strategy in the Age of Digital Disruption’.

    Randy K. Weisburd, Chief Operating Officer of Atlantic|Pacific Companies, is primarily responsible for the formulation and execution of the company’s overall strategic plan as well as its day-to-day growth management. Under the Atlantic|Pacific corporate umbrella, Mr. Weisburd oversees the Acquisitions, Asset and Property Management, Development, Fund Management, and General Contracting. He has served as court-appointed Receiver and Monitor as well as Advisory-Lead Partner on numerous assignments during the past several years. Prior to joining A|P, Mr. Weisburd served as Vice President of LNR Property Corporation. During Mr. Weisburd’s nine-year tenure at LNR, he was directly responsible for the acquisition, development, and management of numerous commercial properties throughout the United States. Mr. Weisburd currently serves as the Chairman of the University of Miami School of Business Administration Real Estate Advisory Board, Executive Board Member of the Aerotropolis Atlanta Alliance, the Urban Land Institute Florida Advisory Board, and is a past Chairman of the Miami Beach Planning Board. Mr. Weisburd graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in Business and currently serves on the University of Miami School of Business Administration Real Estate Advisory Board.

    Anthony De Yurre

    Anthony De Yurre is a Partner in Bilzin Sumberg's Land Development & Government Relations Group. His practice focuses on the representation of real estate developers and investors in complex land use and zoning matters with a focus on transit oriented development, large scale mixed-use development, and public private partnerships. Co-Chair of the University of Miami’s Real Property Development LL.M Advisory Board, Anthony is also an adjunct professor in the program where he teaches “Problem Solving Large Scale, Mixed-Use Development.” Upon graduating from Duke University and Vanderbilt Law, Anthony returned home to Miami to earn his Master of Laws in Real Property Development from the University of Miami. Anthony is also fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.

    Vice Chairman, CBRE

    Robert Given is a Vice Chairman within CBRE Capital Markets Group. He leads a 35‐member team focusing on institutional multifamily sales, land development sales, structured equity finance and private capital sales throughout the State of Florida. Mr. Given has a proven track record for successfully participating in the sale, marketing, and consulting of over 850 investment properties, representing over 200,000 multi‐housing units and additional land and structured finance transactions, with a value in excess of $50 billion. He has been a benefactor and advocate for several Florida charities including The Jack & Jill Center, Dan Marino Foundation, Voices for Children, and Kids at Home, and participated through CBRE’s philanthropic program, including CBRE Cares.
