Recommendations to improve the Miami21 zoning code from ULI Southeast Florida / Caribbean's Young Leaders Group

Next week, a panel of local land use and urban planning experts representing the Urban Land Institute (ULI) will be making recommendations to the City of Deerfield Beach on a strategy for the successful redevelopment of Dixie Corridor and the Central City Area. The Technical Assistance Panel (TAP) will focus on the Dixie corridor from NE Eller Street south to NE 54th Street / SW 15th Street.
The panel, convened as part of ULI’s community advising efforts, will be visiting the community the second week in December to conduct an intensive two-day study of the area. The study will include a review of area historical and background materials, a staff-guided bus tour, public input, panelist working groups, and a final report presentation on the evening of December 8th.
The study area includes the Dixie Highway Corridor from Sample Road in the south to Hillsboro Boulevard in the north, and the commercial, industrial and residential neighborhoods north of Hillsboro Boulevard between Martin Luther King Boulevard and North Dixie Highway. Panelists will conduct a thorough review of all aspects of community development and provide recommendations to the city regarding:
ULI Governance Committee Member and former District Council Chair Debbie Orshefsky, Partner, Holland & Knight, will serve as the panel’s chair. Orhsefsky will be joined on the panel by current District Council Chair Scott MacLaren, President of Stiles, along with Alfred Battle, Jr. Deputy Director, Department of Sustainable Development at the City of Fort Lauderdale; Juan Mullerat, Founder at Plusurbia Design; Eric Liff, Principal of Lambert & Associates; Alia Awaad, Senior Associate Engineer and Florida Lead, Alta Planning + Design; Alfonso Costa, Executive Vice President, Falcone Group; and Darwyn Kelly, Panel Intern and Student, University of Miami MRED+U.
